Vehicle Tips
According to recent studies, 5 percent of all motor vehicle fatalities are clearly caused by automobile maintenance neglect.
-
Vehicle Tips
The cooling system should be completely flushed and refilled about every 24 months. The level, condition, and concentration of coolant should be checked. (A 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water is usually recommended.)
-
Vehicle Tips
Never remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled. The tightness and condition of drive belts, clamps and hoses should be checked by a pro.
-
Vehicle Tips
Change your oil and oil filter as specified in your manual, or more often (every 3,000 miles) if you make frequent short jaunts, extended trips with lots of luggage or tow a trailer.
-
Vehicle Tips
Replace other filters (air, fuel, PCV, etc.) as recommended, or more often in dusty conditions. Get engine drivability problems (hard stops, rough idling, stalling, diminished power, etc.) corrected at a good shop.
-
Vehicle Tips
A dirty windshield causes eye fatigue and can pose a safety hazard. Replace worn blades and get plenty of windshield washer solvent.
-
Vehicle Tips
Have your tires rotated about every 5,000 miles. Check tire pressures once a month; let the tires cool down first. Don't forget your spare and be sure your jack is in good condition.
-
Vehicle Tips
Check your owner's manual to find out what fuel octane rating your car's engine needs then buy it.
-
Vehicle Tips
Keep your tires inflated to the proper levels. Under-inflated tires make it harder for your car to move down the road, which means your engine uses more fuel to maintain speed.
-
Vehicle Tips
Lighten the load. Heavier vehicles use more fuel, so clean out unnecessary weight in the passenger compartment or trunk before you hit the road.
-
Vehicle Tips
Use the A/C sparingly. The air conditioner puts extra load on the engine forcing more fuel to be used.
-
Vehicle Tips
Keep your windows closed. Wide-open windows, especially at highway speeds, increase aerodynamic drag and the result is up to a 10% decrease in fuel economy.
-
Vehicle Tips
Avoid long idling. If you anticipate being stopped for more than one minute, shut off the car. Contrary to popular belief, restarting the car uses less fuel than letting it idle.
-
Vehicle Tips
Stay within posted speed limits. The faster you drive, the more fuel you use. For example, driving at 65 miles per hour (mph) rather than 55 mph, increases fuel consumption by 20 percent.
-
Vehicle Tips
Use cruise control. Using cruise control on highway trips can help you maintain a constant speed and, in most cases, reduce your fuel consumption.
-
Vehicle Tips
Keep your engine tuned. A fouled spark plug or plugged/restricted fuel injector can reduce fuel efficiency as much as 30 percent.
-
Vehicle Tips
Inspect the engine's belts regularly. Look for cracks or missing sections or segments. Worn belts will affect the engine performance.
-
Vehicle Tips
Have the fuel filter changed every 10,000 miles to prevent rust, dirt and other impurities from entering the fuel system.
-
Vehicle Tips
Change the transmission fluid and filter every 15,000 to 18,000 miles. This will protect the precision-crafted components of the transmission/transaxle.
-
Vehicle Tips
Inspect the suspension system regularly. This will extend the life of the vehicle's tires.

Excellent, quality service & mechanics. Not overpriced, and they don't push repairs that aren't needed.

Jacob is outstanding. Been there for 5 years I an establishment that been in Universal City for over 40 years. I brought it in for a safety inspection and they took care of it without a hitch. This is a full service gas station that does everything! Been here since '62. There were issues with my car but Aaron, the manager, handled them all. I'd left for a few minutes to go to a breakfast place and he came over to give me an update on what was needed to be done. Wonderful service. I've been looking for a new auto-repair person and this shop has my business. Military friendly, affiliated with Johnny's who been here for 40 years, family owned. Would not let me pay until all things were tested and working properly as I waited for a battery the car needed arrived. Pure word of mouth are their main source of advertising for business! Got my business!!

Top notch place. Have been having work done with them for over a decade. High integrity, always fair pricing, and just good solid work and ethics across the board with these guys. This is the "my mechanic" kind of place that everyone hopes to find for their car care. Lots of places to choose from on PB road, but this is the one to go to

This is a great place to get car/truck serviced. Mechanics are knowledgeable and very good at their jobs. I have been going to this shop for over 30 years and have never felt anything but confidence in my repairs.

They've taken care of my family and my car for a while now. There service is great and have great customer service. And beat competitors price most of the time! 10/10 would recommend. Only one con to this place and it's that its parking lot is way to small and packed.

Gotta give top marks to the professionals at D & M on Pat Booker. You know how cars will make a noise when you drive them, but NOT when you take them in? It's almost cliche, right? Well, I'm not a fraidy-cat driver, but last week, my car made a sound like I NEVER heard before. When I accelerated, it was sort of like a jet-plane engine-noise inside my car. Really loud and scary. Two of my co-workers recommended D & M. I made an appointment and took my car there, even left it overnight cause I did not want to drive it. They called me the next day with the good news that despite going over the car in detail and having three techs drive it, they could not find any problems. Most likely explanation: a rock or other piece of debris that had gotten inside the wheel and hit the rotors, then fell out. They could have charged me a whole bunch of money and made repairs that were not necessary, and I would not have known the difference. But they didn't. I KNOW I will go back there for my routine car maintenance and should there be a problem that needs fixing. Totally honest and trustworthy.

Special thanks to D&M Service in Universal City, Texas. We were so happy with their great service, caring attitude, and help in this short-term contract that was so easy with prior online information and ability to schedule a truck that met our needs at great price. We then followed up by phone confirmation, and next morning arrived as they were opening. This worked great for us, and we know they have been in business many years with great ratings and positive feedback. We moved furniture from Boerne, Texas to San Antonio and Live Oak, Texas, then back to Universal City, all within their business hours. It was great we had option to drop off truck and keys securely after hours in case we needed 24 hours, but we were thrilled we finished loading and dropping off so quickly. Highly recommend D&M Service!

Great staff, great service, and honest work. Can't ask for much more. They had no problem figuring out what was wrong with my vehicle and quickly fixing it at an affordable price. Definitely a better business than some other mechanic shops in the local area. Also, they're right up the road from Randolph.
